A Weekend of Archery

This weekend was a blast. It started with Friday, November 26. It was the Official Practice and Opening Day for the 2004 FITA National Indoor Archery Tournament. My team (Wings Archery) and I, as well as the La Salle Greenhills team, were there. We had been up since 6:00 in the morning and practiced shooting until 3:00 in the afternoon. We've never spent so much time in the vicinity of Ninoy Aquino stadium, nor did we ever think we'd hang out in a mall such as Harrison Plaza. It was a fun experience.

Saturday, November 27 was the Ranking Round. I did pretty OK, except that I was placed in the same division as those of my age who've been at the sport for years, not to mention the rest of the National Team, so just imagine how much better they did.

On Sunday, November 28, I went head to head with Olympian/Numero Uno in the country, Archer Jasmin Figueroa. This is all I can say. It was a DAMN FINE LOSS! She's an excellent archer with impeccable skill and confidence yet she was humble enough to shake my hand at the end of the quarterfinals and tell me, "Nice game!" after I congratulated her. Of the women in the national team she's the best and the most humble. She deserves every bit of her win.

On the upside, our team won 3 medals - silver and bronze for the junior girls division, and silver for cadet girls division. I have yet to win some sort of medal for our team in the adult girls division. But that's not what matters. What does is that we had fun together at the sport we do best. Win or lose, it's the team I choose!

Here's a picture from the tourney: (5th to the left is Archer Figueroa, 2nd to the right is Archer Carlos. This is not a camera trick!)

The most important thing in the Olympic games is not to win, but to TAKE PART, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the STRUGGLE. The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have FOUGHT WELL.

Please, Say A Little Prayer!

Hello everyone!

This November 26-30 is the 2005 National Indoor Archery Tournament. I need your prayers - that I do well this time and that I at least rank higher than lowest. I'm a bit more confident now than I was last time, my equipment is also a lot better than what I used previously also because it is fully customized for my use only, and I am more accurate than I was before. I just need the stamina and the utmost confidence to pull through.

Thank you!

Quiz again! I lifted it off Matt's blog.

What form of Art are you?

Painting

You are Painting.
You are one of the most versitile of the arts,
capable of creating nearly anything
(abstraction, realiism, even narrative) the
other arts pride themselves in. There is some
aspect of you which every other art form
intimately understands.

The Ice Cream and the Bear

I paid a visit to the Starbucks website yesterday and found this picture among their product list.

Can you believe these things actually exist? I wish they had them right here in every Starbucks outlet possible! Imagine how smooth, creamy, chocolatey and coffee aromatizing it would be! I should shut up now!

Anyway, I took this quiz I found in Mike's blog.

"Animal Spirit Guides - Which One Calls to You?''

Bear Spirit Calls To You ~
The Bear is spirit keeper of the West, the place of darkness, maturity and good harvest. Bears are active during the night and day. This symbolizes its connection with solar energy, that of strength and power, and lunar energy, that of intuition. The bear holds the teachings of introspection. When it shows up in your life pay attention to how you think, act and interact.

Bear's Wisdom Includes:

*Introspection *Healing
*Solitude *Change
*Communication with Spirit
*Birth and rebirth
*Transformation
*Astral travel
*Creature of dreams, shamans and mystics
*Visionaries
*Defense and revenge
*Wisdom

Christmas is in the Air

The air is cool, the lights are bright, the music is merry, our singing is superb, my Christmas shopping is almost done, there's coffee brewing in every Starbucks outlet... Christmas is coming!

Saturday was great. After a week in Bangkok, it's great to sing once again with good ol' VOSA. Andy's voice is really something, the gang just can't help but perk me up, and the songs are just soothing - especially Chris Tords's personal arrangement of Holy. It gives the mass a different twist, yet in a sense is more solemn than all the other Hosannas.

At the moment, I have a new obsession. Shallow as it may seem, I want the Starbucks planner. It looks like an inspiration of the Griffin & Sabine series with envelopes on certain flaps and postcards inside. It's a coffee/book lover's want. And so the triumphs of purchasing a good brew and getting a sticker on the promo card begins.

Print to Print

Certain prints are entertaining to read over and over again.

Here's a funny one I want to share. It's the tag from this set of Chinese stress balls I bought in Bangkok.

Directions of Healthy Balls
Healthy Dalls Was made ongInally in Song Dynasty (960-1127AD)used tor Martial-arts,and then used by emperial family after It sounds like Roaring Dragon and Sinlg Phoanix by ramming each other with hands It is good fot improving physical oonditions and relaxing your mind
You can put two ot more balls in a hand, and tum them by fingers started to play slowly, and then increase the speed and strength graduallv
Three kinds of balls are offered in out company siiver colourea golden coloured and cloisonne balls

Grabe! They didn't even bother to have it checked. Speaking on behalf of the design and print industry, to say that this is a nightmare/reject is an understatement.

Here's a cute one. Regina wrote me a really sweet letter before she left Bangkok. It was the whole reason why she slept so late. She was writing me a thank you note.

To: T.C. (TC -Tita Caren - is Regina's new nickname for me)
Love: You know already

Dear T.C. I had fun in Bangkok with you! I wish i could stay till Wednesday :(. But I loved MBK and Toffy Sweet and of course No Problem. You are the best travelling companion. I love you T.C.! Bye
Regina

It even comes with a drawing of a medal that says "#1 Grand Prize - Best Travelling Companion". Kids are just so cute.

So was Bam. Fyi, she was a shelf filler at SM Grocery this afternoon. Ericka too. Teehee!

Back from the Land of No English

I'm back from Bangkok! It's a literal flight from one heat to another, and one traffic to another. But well, we went from dealing with a group of strangers who can't speak English to a family just eager for us to arrive.

I actually have a lot of stories to tell, like how Tita Lou tricked her own self into believing that there is an "itlog ng kalabaw", gimmicks in the supposed city of the wild end at 1:00 am - no kidding!, and Regina wanting to buy for herself the same clothes I was buying for myself (some shirts, we got in the same size), but writing it all here won't do those cute and funny stories any justice.

The stories will come later, when I have the chance to speak of them in person. For now, check out another article of mine that was published in http://www.writelit.com entitled Read and Live.

Simply Bangkok

Wow! What a great trip. Just really miss Bam and Wappy. Kulang ang barkada!

Anyway, I did a lot of things I said I wasn't going to do. I bought shoes, I bought a bag, and I went to Pat Pong. Bwahahaha! I found it corny though. It's not as red light district as people say it is. Truth be told, I've seen wilder. Hmm... then again, it was the oldies who really discouraged me from going there so that explains it. Then there was Bed. Cool bar since you spend the entire time drinking Piña Colada on a bed.

The shopping is, as usual, fantastic. For the first time, I still have money but I quit. I was the one who said ENOUGH!

As for the food, I'm dead. No matter how many times people tell me I'm payat already, they're not the ones who feel the fat waiting to explode from my body.

I can't really recap the trip in detail. Basta, it was a fun trip. See you all back in Manila!

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

10:20 am

I guess it's time I wrote something pertaining to this song since it has been my LSS for a week and a half now. It's a good one though, especially since Christmas is fast approaching. Time to look forward to Christmas lights and decors, not to mention the days of happy eating and gift giving. The best part is... it's Macie's first Christmas.

Before that, I have yet to buy Christmas gifts for everyone, plus I have to lose weight for Ate's wedding. And first things first. Bangkok's coming, or rather I'm conquering the malls and markets of Bangkok for a whole week.

I have a meeting in Alabang in a while. Last client call before the big vacation. Meanwhile, I'm waiting for JJ in his den, drinking coffee with Splenda (first time to try it and damn it's so sweet) while watching anime. Can you believe I'm still getting paid to do this? I'm getting distracted. My eyes keep wandering over to Fancy Lala. Will sign off for now,

3:05 pm

Just came from the Alabang meeting. Small world, one guy at the meeting is the brother of an old friend of mine from high school.

Lunch was at Banana Leaf Curry. Gosh! JJ treated and of course I'm super full. Papa Bear is so cool! I have the best boss in the world.

Signing off now for real! Ja ne!

What Kanji Word Best Suits You?

wisdom

Really now! Well, yeah! Maybe I am intellectual when I feel like it, I have a lot of common sense, and I definitely know when to stop and start something. I just wish I had straight A's in school but that wouldn't really matter now, would it. Come to think of it, Wisdom on my part probably comes from being the Ate in almost all my groups of friends. I need it!

Four Days On a Binge, Or Is It The Dismenorhea Talking?

There’s something about long weekends combined with special occasions and warm weather that give people all the excuses in the world to eat what they want, when they want. What with Macie’s christening/Ate Char’s Birthday, Macie winning best costume as Gymbo the Clown at her Gymboree Halloween party (she looked exactly like the doll) so happy daddy/Kuya treated to merienda, party leftovers, and a hot day the cemetery with the rest of the clan to pay our respects to our departed loved ones, you can’t really help but go on an eating spree…

It’s heartwarming to reminisce stories from childhood. It’s even better when you remember it through Peter Pan. In the world of Never Land, no matter how evil the pirated get, things can never go awry. Everywhere you look, everywhere you turn, there is magic all around. However, I realized that even though childhood is fun, I wouldn’t want to stay one forever. Part of the fun of growing up is being the real you while a child at heart…

When friends turn freaky and freaky turns annoying and annoying turns ditto and ditto makes you curse like you’ve never done before, it’s time to really back off! Isn’t it annoying when people tell you to postpone trips just to be at a party that lasts one night?!? Okay! Enough of that topic. It’s already the dismenorhea talking.
