Festival of the May Celebrants

Wednesday, May 24, was Kuya Lito's birthday so it was a seafood dinner at Valle 2. The food was good and healthy, but was just an appetizer for what was supposed to be of the rest of the week.

Friday, May 26, was Macie's 2nd birthday so it was a whole afternoon of fun and play at Gymboree. It was a very entertaining event. Macie and her friends had all these Gymboree activities while Tita Bam played Teacher (after all she is the teacher of the Explorations kids) and I played official photographer. Wow! I knew covering an event was difficult but I didn't think it was that tedious. Kids are the best subjects but the most difficult, nevertheless, the most fun. And then there was food, ice cream, and these really good cupcakes...

Saturday, May 27, was Mikey's birthday. Time for the big Two-Oh! THe eating was "fantabulous". Last year was dinner at Terry's so this year was better. It was Terry's AND Santi's at their house. There were cold cuts, cheese, raclette, gourmet salad, chocolate fondue... Then we spent the entire afternoon playing with Ellie, her really cute 4-month old, 1/4 Belgian niece.

Sunday, May 28, was Lola's Birthday. It was a whole day affair of eating, mahjong for the Titas, poker for the boys, art and crafts for the girls, and more eating for everyone. At night, we made it a joint Baby Shower for Ate Char. Poor Macie thought the party and the gifts were still for her. How do you explain to a two-year old that the gifts were for her not-yet-born baby brother? But anyway, it was fun. We even had a game called the Milk Drinking contest. It's not that simple. We had all the boy cousins line up and drink milk from a baby bottle. Really hilarious!

NINANG!

Except for work in the morning, I practically spent the whole of yesterday with Ate Char and Macie. After lunch, I actually went with Kuya and Ate Char to Explorations for Macie's PTC (Parent-Teacher Conference). Weird how it's my second time to attend one of those. I went to Bam's in place of Pop when she was in second year high school.

Anyway, the teachers were all praises for Macie. She's the valedictorian of the class. And it was also all praises for teacher Bambie that they want to hire her as a permanent ASAP. She's the star teacher among the little boys. Such praises for my babies.

After that, Bam and I ended spending the whole afternoon with Macie. How could we leave when she woke up with a smile on her face the minute she saw that we were there. So we ended up playing with her til it was time to pick up Ate. And then Ate Char popped the question... not marriage! Duh! "Will both of you be the Ninangs of Matteo?" One big YES!!!

So after spoiling Macie for two years, it's time to spoil a baby boy this time... my very first inaanak. But of course, I made a promise with Macie that even with her baby brother present, I'm going to make sure that we'll still play with her like we do now and still shower her with so much attention that it'll make her sick. After all, I know how it feels like to be the kid with a new baby sister.

Mother's Day

Twas Mother's Day yesterday so our family wouldn't let the day go by without a "little" eating.

First things first. Regina's back from the States, so after lunch at Butterfly yesterday, the two of us, plus Bam, went to the Nail Spa. And lo and behold! Bam got a manicure... which she actually enjoyed. That really surprised everyone.

After spending all that time with Regina, it was time for the Mother's Day dinner at Peking Garden wherein all of us cousins treated all the mothers to dinner. If there's one thing we established last night, it's that you should never argue with the Chan family in Peking Garden in terms of the size of the food. We know our food!

The Suki Branch

I've been craving for sweet stuff since last night so I decided to go to my friendly neighbor, Starbucks Libis, after lunch. Time for a personal short mocha and chunky chocolate chip cookie.

It's really such a good thing that the people there know me by name and by face, because after mixing my coffee, I picked up my cookie in a paper bag, and it fell. I hate it when stuff like that happens. And I was really looking forward to it. Turns out I picked it up from the bottom of the bag and it wasn't properly sealed. Of course, I was to cheap to buy another one. Grabe ha! The cookie is already 50 bucks. I still remember when it was 35. Good thing the manager saw me. She got the bag from me and gave me a whole new cookie. She's so nice and she makes the best mocha. I really love that branch and the people in it.

Off topic: I can't believe Chris Dautry got eliminated from American Idol. Gah! And I thought he'd win. Now hoping Elliot wins. If not Elliot, then Kathy. But I think Elliot really deserves it. He just keeps getting better each show.

168 then Southbay

Sunday Club once more. Too bad it was just a trio of Kuya Dondi, Bam, and myself. We paid what was supposed to be a short visit to 168 mall in Divisoria. They're paying taxes but the stuff are still cheap. Harder to bargain with them now, though, but still cheap compared to buying stuff in Greenhills or Tiendesitas.

And since the Pascuals had just arrived from the States, we paid them a short visit too. Poor Regina was dead to the world that she merely waved when we tried to wake her up and announce her arrival, then went back to her much needed sleep. Jet lag! So we spent the remainder of our time kwentuhan with Ate Boom and Kuya Mandy. I super missed them.

Kakaibang Kinda Supernatural Long Weekend

Surprisingly, it was Saturday that was same old, same old. But in fairness to all those who took time out to help VOSA (Bam, Wappy, Chris Tords, and Ana Perdices), they sounded really nice. Ganda ng offertory, ganda rin ng Holy.

Since the gospel was about the doubting Thomas, Fr. Galindo asked the congregation if we believed in ghosts. Bam, Wappy and I looked at each other and answered a big fat YES! After all, we have friends who see them...

Then there was Sunday Club, which extended into the evening edition on account of Labor Day the next day. For the first time, Ate joined us in the afternoon. We went to EGG in Greenhills Promenade. Cool coz it's a gaming (XBox and PS2) place but Videoke style, meaning you can split the screen of the plasma TV so one group can do the videoke and another can play video games, but you're in the confines of a small room with surround sound and cozy couches. And of course, takaw ba naman ng Chan family, Ate treated to Brazilian fries since it was her first time in Promenade so it was sort of like a "blessing".

After a high carb dinner at Butterfly, evening edition naman. This time with Wappy. Along with Bam, we met up with Kuya Dondi and Jukka in Metrowalk then we drove around the Roxas, Macapagal, basta Manila area and kwentuhan lang. Strangely, when we reached a certain area, Wappy and I just suddenly got freaked out, covered our guts and looked away from the windows. Wala lang! It just felt overwhelmingly scary, like someone's watching you, and it felt really heavy, almost painfully nerve-wracking. Turns out, thanks to Kuya Dondi's pananakot, we just passed the Film Center. Blasted place! I don't ever wanna go near it again. But it was all worth it since he treated to dimsum at the Golden Fortune in Binondo. That was at around 1 am so couldn't sleep sa busog and wild imagination.

Labor Day, Bam and I spent the whole of it in Palladium. Grabe! Kuya should watch what he says. While he watched NBA, Macie copied all his reactions including "Pucha naman!" which got corrected to "Wow naman!". Another creepy thing. Bam was painting Macie's window with "Cat In the Hat" while I took a break and played with Macie. Then she just drops her toy and starts saying "Bye" and waving to one part of the room then backed up like she was scared and sat on my lap and kept saying bye some more to whatever. Hay! Kids and their third eyes! Then we resumed the painting and the play. Cute Macie! She didn't want us to go home. If I could just keep her, I would!
