Forbes... In My Memories

After lunch, I went to Butterfly to drop off a check for Ninang. I stayed and chit chatted with her for a while, making plans for lunch with her and Ate Pebs for tomorrow at UCC. As I was about to leave she offered me some lunch, which I refused since I already ate and was on my way back to the office.

When I got into the car some thoughts just flashed into my head. I remembered the days when I was still in school, staying in Forbes during the half-days to just sit down and eat with Lolo and Lola, and study for whatever has to get studied, while waiting for Mommy to get out of work. I also remembered talking to Ninang and Kuya Ronnie over lunch at the breakfast nook, Regina running around, waiting for me to get up and play with her. I also remembered how there were days when Kuya Ting Ting and Kuya Dondi would go to Forbes for lunch on one of their not so busy days.

I thought how I would never again experience those days, never again spend another Christmas in the grand home we once all grew up in, never hear a new born sibling's/cousin's baby say that this IS Lolo and Lola's house. Instead, we will hear stories of this tenant's bratty child happily running around thinking the entire house is her playroom. Or perhaps i shouldn't think that way. Hopefully, one day, those of our generation and the one below will all be able to reclaim that house and make new memories... memories like before... memories that will last a lifetime and beyond.

Friends and the City

I just finished watching "Sex and the City." I had also just thanked Mars and Mark for saving me from what would have been a boring Friday night.

It was the episode when Samantha learned that she had breast cancer. It ended at Miranda's wedding with Samantha dropping the bomb on her friends. It was a special occasion for Miranda, but she didn't care. To all of them it was all normal just listening to Samantha talk, telling them not to worry, while the rest gave their heart-felt support.

This brought me to my thoughts on friends. Good friends make a vow to each other, just like the one in marriage, only it is unspoken. Like husband and wife, the love between the best of friends is unconditional. When the going gets tough friends will be there for you. Walang iwanan!

To all my friends, you know who you are, I love you guys!

Tali Weekened

This weekend was great! Ate, KN, Ate Boom, Kuya Mandy, Regina and I went to Tali. It was fun because it wasn't at all magulo and the food was great. I can't believe I pigged out, not to mention ate chips and oreo. I really miss that.

We left at about 4 pm last Saturday for the drive to the beach. It felt pretty long since the sun was still up when we left and it was already dark when we arrived at Kuya Nicky's house. But never mind that. Some common friends came for dinner. It's funny how the world is so small. We knew that couple from VOSA because Rina used to sing with us, at the same time she was Ate Boom's classmate in St. Scho. Then her husband was Kuya Mandy's batchmate, who's also KN's off-roading buddy. The remainder of the night was spent watching "Fantastic Four", eating more chips, and going to a nice, yummy sleep.

Sunday was beach hopping day. After eating a good breakfast we went to Sunset Beach, to just watch the waves. It was high tide so we couldn't really swim that day. Poor Bam's nerdiness was the topic of our conversation. Then we went off to the Main Beach where we met up with Rina again. After lomo-ing away we went back to the house to have a hearty lunch and pack up for the trip back home.

What I wrote here comes from the mind of one sleepy person so I don't think I did it justice. But I believe that trips like that should be done more often.

The 80s Driver vs. Today's Driver

Two weekends ago the left-side mirror of the green car I usually take around (the "chug-a-chug" car as Willow calls it) was either accidentally bumped or was tampered with by someone who makes a living out of selling stolen car parts. Based on how it looks, it seems that it was accidentally bumped because it has scratches on it and is now reflecting the road rather than the car's rear. Also, I'm hoping that no one in their right mind would steal something so petty within the vicinity of Santuario de San Antonio.

So anyway, I've been driving without that left-side mirror and have been relying on the one that shows the entire back of the car. In a country like ours, where drivers (especially taxi drivers) are crazy enough to just pop in from out of nowhere, it's difficult to drive without that mirror. I felt glad though that the right-side is still ok since, as I mentioned, this is a country with crazy drivers who can overtake you from anywhere, and the right (also known as the blind spot) is just as good an overtaking spot for these crazy drivers.

According to Ate Pebs, the cars of the 80s didn't have the right-side mirror. They only had the left-side and inside-rear mirrors. It sounds like a difficult feat to drive without the right mirror, especially with our current traffic scheme of U-turning and trying to cut through the traffic to make the dreadful right turn. Then again traffic wasn't so bad before. No wonder the drivers of the 80s are more careful. Today's drivers are just plain reckless.

Smile... the best way to start

I haven't felt like blogging in a while, but since there have been a number of things that made me smile this week I thought that I ought to document it for future reference.

September 2, Friday
Mikey and Mars slept over after a number of stress-induced months. We picked up Bam in school and surprised her that Mars stayed instead of going to Vietnam. Then we had pizza (for old times sake) and watched "Ice Princess".

September 3, Saturday
Morning to Afternoon - Had lunch at Jack's. Except for Mikey, who's a bottomless pit that doesn't gain weight, we were full to the brim with creamy and buttery food that was worth the calories. Then Mark followed to Starbucks Fort (where I resisted coffee since I quit) and we all played mini-golf at Par 43, something I haven't done in years.

Night - Andy went to VOSA! Yay! I was saved from playing the piano. Then there was dinner at the house for Bam. I told Regina about Harry and Ginny in Half-Blood Prince and she actually got so kilig. She even asked me why she was feeling like that and I told her that it was a natural thing. Cute! The little girl is growing up.

September 4, Sunday
Followed Bam to her SPEED family day. She introduced me to Tony (don't know the last name) who's a national artist with down's syndrome. I can't believe I got star struck.

September 5, Monday
Morning to Afternoon
Bam was given a surpise lunch by her Ateneo friends at Chocolate Kiss. Ericka's laughter is just so entertaining. Plus Mike was the one who dropped off his Ate Caren back to the office. Ahem!

Night
The whole family had dinner at the house for Bam's birthday. When Ate Char told Macie to give the gift to "Bam" she gave it to me. So I said, "Give to the other 'Bam'", so she gave it to Bam. Cute! She probably thinks we're twins. Then she runs around the house looking for the "ming-ming". She means "Cat"!
