School Girl and Old Schoolmates

I had a pretty interesting afternoon out of the office yesterday.

Ton and I had a meeting for a project bidding in an office in Roxas Blvd. Incidentally, one of the people we met with was an old schoolmate, Trina, also an old friend from FACETS (in high school) and the Library Club (in grade school). Nice to see a familiar face in such foreign territory. Funny thing too that Ton had an old classmate from Xavier who's, sort of, Trina's boss. "It's a small world after all."

Before going back to the office, I passed by the Starbucks at The Fort to get a _mocha and a brownie. Meetings away from the office merit a Starbucks break after. While waiting for my _mocha, the baristas decided to be all friendly with me. That's actually what I like about Starbucks Fort. They're ALL always friendly. This is how it went.

Barista guy: Hello Caren! The personal _mocha is yours right? (gestures to my tumbler) Would you like
regular or non-fat milk?
Me: Regular please!
Barista guy (while making my coffee): Came from school?
Me (laughs while obviously flattered): Oh no! I'm working na!
Barista girl (laughing): Really? You look young!
Barista guy (laughing too): Oo nga. Mukhang student ka pa.
Me (still flattered but trying to be modest): Hehe! It's a common mistake.

I Don't Want To Live On The Moon

The next time I think Manila is an unsuitable place to live in all because of its stupid drivers, I should sing this to myself and remember that they're not all that live here. I may want to live in Bangkok or Hong Kong, but I don't think I can live there forever.

Written by Jeff Moss
1978 Festival Attractions, Inc. (ASCAP)
Sung by Ernie (Jim Henson)
Well, I'd like to visit the moon
On a rocket ship high in the air
Yes, I'd like to visit the moon
But I don't think I'd like to live there
Though I'd like to look down at the earth from above
I would miss all the places and people I love
So although I might like it for one afternoon
I don't want to live on the moon
I'd like to travel under the sea
I could meet all the fish everywhere
Yes, I'd travel under the sea
But I don't think I'd like to live there
I might stay for a day there if I had my wish
But there's not much to do when your friends are all fish
And an oyster and clam aren't real family
So I don't want to live in the sea
I'd like to visit the jungle, hear the lions roar
Go back in time and meet a dinosaur
There's so many strange places I'd like to be
But none of them permanently
So if I should visit the moon
Well, I'll dance on a moonbeam and then
I will make a wish on a star
And I'll wish I was home once again
Though I'd like to look down at the earth from above
I would miss all the places and people I love
So although I may go I'll be coming home soon
'Cause I don't want to live on the moon
No, I don't want to live on the moon

Different Baguio

Just got back from Baguio yesterday. It was a fairly enjoyable trip. Different from all the other Baguio trips, but ok!

1. We had Macie from morning til evening, everyday everyday! That in itself was fun enough. She's just so smart and entertaining, and pure cuteness! Plus, she loves my camera that she kept taking adorable pictures of herself and pretty ok (kinda artistic pa nga) shots of the fireplace and the trees.

2. Kuya Dondi, Wappy, Mike and Jem stayed til Monday so, sort of, gimmick, and kwentuhan. And for the first time, Bam and I joined in on the ghost stories on Easter Sunday evening. Lucky for Kuya Dondi and Jem, I awakened to the sound of hammers on our side of the house at 8 am so there was no "slaughtering". Wappy is just mabait.

3. First time to see Mikey and Chris in Baguio so we went out on Holy Thursday afternoon. Coffee and ice cream at The Filling Station with good music to boot. Then just kwento all afternoon.

4. While Ate and Pop were at the market, Bam and I actually walked around Session Rd. with Kuya Nicky. It's actually fun to go around with him. He's really our kuya already.

5. Although I didn't go to Good Shepherd or scouted the market and Minesview (which I found corny this trip), we went on a family road trip to Green Valley (to the peak sana) to see the view.

6. And because there was "Strawberries and Ice Cream" at the The Filling Station, we had ice cream everyday! Grabe! I gained 4 pounds from that blastedly yummy Strawberry Parfait.

7. Went with Macie to her Easter Egg Hunt in Country Club. Kakahiya how Macie's father and titas were so competitive when Macie herself was contented with what she had.

8. I'm now a girl scout. My Finnish fire making skills are getting better that I can make it look the way I want it to. Olli will be proud.

9. And unlike all Baguio trips where I usually rode with Kuya Lito, I drove this time... THE WHOLE WAY back and forth, and IN Baguio.

Baguio... Tomorrow Na!

I can't wait for Baguio.
Time to play with Macie for a whole week, bring out all the fatty stuff and vintage cameras.
But first I need to get some sleep if I'm driving all the way.
Screw all people who snore loudly. They don't deserve to sleep at all.

"No Day But Today"

It usually takes me some time to tune back to my regularly scheduled programming so this weekend was something I haven't done for a really long time. Blast all those days of obligation! Along with Bam, Mikey and Mars, we pigged out on Saturday then finally watched RENT. Love it! There actually are so many issues that are very emotional, even to the viewer, but I just love the songs. We all couldn't help but sing along. And it made me realize that we are all so lucky to have the lives we have. Imagine, in some sectors of society, there are people dying because of aids, or drugs for that matter, and there are people getting evicted from their homes. Homosexuality... well, it's all around. And yet I couldn't help but look back and think that there's no use regretting some of the things I've done since most of them are very minor compared to what others have been through. So this line hit home, "Forget regret, or life is yours to miss. No other hope, no other way, NO DAY BUT TODAY!"

Then there was VOSA. Though the mics were soft (what's new?), I just missed everybody that I didn't care. Love VOSA! Then dinner after with a huge chunk of the family where Macie was just so sweet.

Sunday was slightly different again. After spending time with Ate at the nail spa, Sunday Club picked me up after their Marikina Shoe Expo thing then we went to Tiendesitas. Til next week again when the Sunday Club goes to Baguio. Can't wait to reunite myself with the mountains again!
