The Lacson-Carlos Wedding

On February 26, 2005 I gained myself a brand new brother. Not a baby brother, but a fully grown 33-year old that is Kuya Nicky.

It was a truly exciting and wonderful wedding. The flowers were beautiful; the singing was fantastic (never mind the soft microphones of good ol' San Antonio); the people present were nothing short of supportive and loving; the food was great; the groom was in his most emotional yet playful and good-looking self; and the bride, Ate Pebs, was simply magnificent ... THE bride of brides.

On that glorious day, Mommy was there draped in brown and white butterfly wings. When illumined by light, she glowed with a tint of aqua, the motif of the wedding. How did she do that? God knows. She made her presence felt to all those present that day.

The program flow was great, although Bam and I were really nervous. But we pulled through. People told us that our gowns were beautiful and we looked great, and sang well, and we felt good because of that.

There was dancing and more dancing. The band played nice songs and well.

Everything was fun, probably the most fun wedding for most present. To name a few of fun moments, that I can easily write down here without having to elaborate:
1. Regina danced with much bravado and stayed up til 3:30 along with the rest of us.
2. Wappy was the "dakilang D.I." for all the girl cousins - as usual.
3. Anna could have been proclaimed "Ms. Congeniality" with her "let's mingle with the others" and followed through by making friends with Kuya Nicky's cousins our age.
4. Macie "stole the show" - even while Ate looked nice in her wedding gown and all cameras were on her like the paparazzi, Macie had an equal amount of attention and cameras on her.
5. Eyes were also on Ria who looked like a super model.
6. Ate sang the offertory song with us during the wedding which really surprised Kuya Nicky.
7. And she sang again during the reception which made Kuya Nicky turn really red.
8. The newlyweds danced the Tango which had everyone clapping and smiling.
9. The siblings (Stephen, Bam, and me) number had everyone impressed by the family talent. Fyi, Kuya would have played the kahon had Macie not woken up from her sleep with a nightmare.
10. Regina played with the band's bonggo set with Stephen and Paolo (Kuya Nicky's brother and cousin) while "flirting" with them. Scary child!

There's actually a lot more that I can't find words to write about. All I can say is that it was a truly fantastic wedding.

Lost in Muntinlupa

So my officemate, Teng, and I wrapped up our meeting in this Oakwood style apartelle in Alabang, had lunch at Towncenter, explored through our favorite books in Powerbooks, got coffee, then made our exit back to our humble office on C5. Except that neither of us are used to Filinvest navigation, nor are we familiar with the changes made in the use of the streets. So instead of taking the underpass that leads straight to Manila, we took the overpass that leads elsewhere... and that's how we were forced to exit through Susanna Heights. Where's that? Exactly!

Inside Susanna Heights, it was imperative that we make use of our RPG skills. So, relying on our instinct, we followed a bus that said "Alabang" on its body, overtook it, and just drove down one street all the way. And voila! We were back in Alabang, found the exit, and drove back to the office. Luckily, we skipped the traffic of Filinvest and had smooth sailing all the way.

A Day of Days

A year ago today, my life at Weave officially began. The year before that, Ate Char and I ventured into our many conquests of overcoming boredom - baking, cooking, as well as other projects that involved our creativity. Thus began my life as a semi-professional writer who ventured into the world of baking and design. Known as the Turtle in this partnership, this is what I wrote about our masterpiece...

CC Sisters: The Rabbit and The Turtle

On ordinary days, I am an artist. But when the most boring of lonesome, week day afternoons strikes, I am transformed into THE TURTLE. Together with my sister, THE RABBIT, CC Sisters became our name and making cheesecake became our game.

How it began? It was a simple "let's make oatmeal cookies" thing. And when it made others happy it progressed into a luscious mudpie that served as an emblem of celebration from a matter* that was of life and death. Soon, we found ourselves in that mood to create a true masterpiece. Thus, The Rabbit and The Turtle's Cheesecake. There was only one factor that hindered us from producing such a creation, that is, we did not have the magic of the springform pan**.

We were faced with a series of quests to find our springform mate. I, the turtle, controlled the wheel while my sister, the rabbit, swooshed through the crowds. Then, there it was, glowing right in front of us, the key to our perfection.

Back at our Firefly Grove***, we worked on the creation of a masterpiece that was to be a hit. With the combined forces of our talent and skill, and the magic of the springform, we were successful at creating our winning game. And after the first bite of all those who partook of our sumptuous cheesecake, the whole world turned upside down.

This Writer on V Day

Valentine's Day... what makes it so special? Not the color red. Definitely not spending it with a special someone. And definitely NOT the love that's in the air. I'd say all these are "bahumbug" since I'm not one to go traipsing around the corridors expressing my emotions...

It's special because it's my Mom's birthday. With that, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY!

On to another note, my favorite author said, "Write what makes you happy, write what makes you want to write more." And so this writer ventured into the wonderful land of Tamora Pierce hoping to learn something of substance, and this is what she got in return:

Dear Caren,

Thank you! I'm glad you love my books so much (time and time
again!). I'm especially glad that they inspired your writing. It sounds like you have an excellent way of dealing with your writers block (getting published in a national paper is certainly not the typical path!) ;-)

Keep writing what you love! If you find yourself stuck with your
writing again and would like some other suggestions, you check my webpage, in the FAQ section [http://www.tamora-pierce.com/faq.htm#wblock] and you'll see all the fixes I know for writer's block. (though, I can assure you there isn't a more productive tip than writing shorter pieces and getting them published.) I put them all up there in as much detail as I could because writer's block, or just plain getting stuck, is the single biggest problem every writer faces over and over again. I try to explain different ways to deal with it there, the ones I use and the ones that have been suggested to me by other writers, to help as many people as I can. Take a look--I hope you find something that will help.

Thanks for writing to me, and I promise to keep writing more books for you to read!

Best wishes,

Tamora Pierce

And that made all the difference in this writer's day!

Life Lessons from Neopets

It's been a while since I've had anything decent to write about here. Most of the thoughts encircling my head are for the benefit of my beloved neopet, or wedding related. However, I have learned something valuable from this severe neopet addiction. Taking care of a Neopet is like having the responsibility of taking care of a child.

1. You have to earn money to feed it. No matter how sick you are of your job (aka playing games) you just have to endure it to put food on the table.

2. It's difficult to be a student parent with a lousy internet connection. Bam can't even play games at home so Tita Caren has to earn neopoints to put in Bam's account and make sure Libis the Meerca is properly cared for.

3. It's expensive to send a child to school. Likewise with the Neopet. One dubloon is hard to find and the exchange rate ranges from 120,000 to 222,000 neopoints. Ouch!

4. No matter how virtual neopet shopping is compared to real life shopping, one should never underestimate the "tawad" power. Believe it or not, I can get away with a 40% discount at a neopet store.

5. And even though you try to be as cheap as can be just to keep building up the neopet bank account, you still want to give it the best stuff, rest and relaxation, and a home.

Kawaii Kacheek!

I am hopelessly addicted to Neopets (see www.neopets.com and get a pet now!) and it's all Wappy's fault. But it's OK. It a pretty fun addiction and I learn the responsibility of having to earn money to support something I love (not that I haven't already learned that) and I learn to really, actually take care of something I have responsibility over.

Meet my yellow Kacheek, Asucachan!
