The Importance of Education
I can't believe it. I just read the most brain cell damaging article ever at the Philippine Daily Inquirer. It speaks of the human body and making babies. So, what about it?
A team from the Inquirer conducted a survey on a number of urban poor communities and it turns out that they have NO IDEA where babies come from. So how does that explain their average of 8 to 10 children?!? It's as simple as a lack of education.
These people don't know that they have a uterus, an ovary, egg cells, sperm cells... The women didn't know that you do, in fact, get pregnant as a result of sex, and neither did the men. They simply thought that all these babies are JUST GIFTS from God, no strings attached. On the other hand, the women thought that their monthly period was just a result of the blood flowing through their veins, and the reason why they bleed is because they have an overflow.
Wala na akong masabi. Here's an excerpt of what I just read:
In many communities, Dayrit said many women didn't even know why they had menstrual periods or what the uterus was for. He said a good number of men were no better, completely ignorant of what happens when the sperm and egg unite.
He cited the example of a woman in Bulacan province who decided not to have any more kids, yet continued to have unprotected sex.
"She doesn't understand completely how she can [get pregnant]," he said. If she knew about the process of ovulation then they could "time" their sexual
activities and could avoid unwanted pregnancy, he added.
